A ‘no win’ situation in a job interview
If, like me you have done your fair share of interviews you will know how frustrating it is to receive inconsistent feedback. I think the easiest cop-out for people in HR is to say that the candidate did not show enough motivation for the job. I have heard this excuse used so many times I’ve lost count. I’m quite an upbeat kind of person, and that always comes across in interviews. For me to hear that I didn’t seem motivated enough seems diabolical. Nevertheless, after hearing this feedback come up a number of times, I changed my approach, and attempted to show more enthusiasm in interviews. I then received feedback saying that I came across as too ‘sales-y’???
How could I ever strike the right balance?
